How to prove a parcel arrived damaged or incomplete
The seller says it was sent intact; the courier says it was delivered intact. A dated record of the moment you opened it ends the argument.
When opening the parcel
- Before opening, shoot the outer box, the label and any dents or tears.
- Open it in one continuous video, showing the item and all contents.
- Take close-ups of the damage or the missing part.
Prove it right away
Prove the video and photos the same day on the File Proof page. Attach the files and proof files to your return request.
If you are the seller
Shoot and prove the item and parcel contents before sealing. The same method protects you against unfair “arrived broken” claims.
For courier damage, having the driver note the damage at delivery is still the strongest step; this record complements it.
5 common mistakes
- Sending the photo on WhatsApp as a “photo”. The app compresses it, so the copy received no longer matches. Send it as a “document/file”.
- Editing the original. Cropping, filters or re-saving create a new file. Leave the original untouched.
- Waiting to prove it. A proof carries the date you take it. Prove the photo on the day you shoot it.
- Keeping the .ots in one place only. Lose the phone and you lose the date. Email it to yourself or put it in the cloud.
- Not telling the other side. Sending the proof that day also records that they were informed.
A message you can send
